About us

Owner, Boesman

Boesman has a passion for nature since childhood, however he studied to be a teacher but later worked as an insurance broker. He was not happy with earning such huge amount of money, led him to leave it all and get back to nature. There he was named "Boesman ( Afrikaans word for Bushman )" by his boss because left everything just to get back to nature...

Sossus on foot

The company "Sossus on foot" was founded in 1996 as the guiding company in Sossusvlei. Boesman started a transfer service for the last 5km where 4x4 vehicles are essential. Later he was joined by Frans Kasera and an ex Japanese volunteer, Yuri who became Boesman's wife later. Then we started to offer Guided Walks in Sossusvlei in 1999. Although "Guided Walks" became very popular with tourists visiting Sossusvlei, because of changes in government legislation, we moved out. We then started to offer Desert Tours on our own property, "Desert Farm Cha-re".

Bushman's Desert Camp, Farm Cha-re

In the old days, the farm Cha-re was used for Karakul sheep farming. Although the farm was too harsh to continue their farming, this was perfect place for us to introduce the Namib Desert to our guests. It has got dunes, plains, mountains, canyons, sand stone mountains... all sorts of the Namib Desert.

As the guests who join our Desert Tour required a place to overnight, we first established campsites and then later built self-catering units with an open air concept. We have 12stunning en-suite rooms with fully opening sliding doors in front and big windows on one side, which will give you the feeling of being part of nature.
